Ida Applebroog, painter whose work often deals with old age and dysfunctional families, received a $375,000 MacArthur Foundation fellowship.
Renzo Piano won the $100,000 Pritzker Prize, given by the Hyatt Foundation. He is best known for designing, with Richard Rogers, the Pompidou Center in Paris.
Janine Antoni, whose performances and sculptures often address issues of female identity, received a $225,000 MacArthur Foundation fellowship.
Robin Cembalest, writer and editor, became the executive editor of ARTnews magazine. She had previously worked at the publication from 1988 to '94.
Timothy Potts was named director of the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth. He had been director of the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, since 1995.
