After the success of the first two seasons, "Art 21: Art in the 21st Century" will return to TV screens this fall. The first episode of the new four-part series will air on PBS on Sept. 16 at 10 P.M. [EDT], with subsequent installments on Sept. 23 and 30 and Oct. 7. Susan Sollins, co-founder and former executive director of Independent Curators International (ICI), continues to produce the show, which explores the practices of 16 contemporary artists working in a wide range of mediums.

Artists Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler were commissioned to create a collaborative work for the series. One segment of their four-part short film about dreams is shown at the end of each episode. Featuring such artists as Matthew Ritchie, Ellen Gallagher, Ida Applebroog, Cai Guo-Qiang, Jessica Stockholder and Krzysztof Wodiczko, each program is loosely based on a theme (power, memory, structures or play), with an introduction by a celebrity host--David Alan Grier, Isabella Rossellini, Sam Waterston or Grant Hill.
