Tate magazine gets boost - Artworld - Brief Article

Stephanie Cash

London's Tate Gallery is set to relaunch its magazine this month. Under an initial three-year agreement, it is now published by Conde Nast, which plans to expand the format beyond a typical museum magazine. Tate will include art, architecture, film, theater, performance and fashion in its coverage, and will carry a special section on art events and exhibitions relating specifically to the Tate galleries (Britain, Modern, St. Ives and Liverpool). The publication reaches approximately 75,000 readers through museum-member subscriptions and newsstand sales. Robert Violette has been named editor. Among the books he has edited are The Jeff Koons Handbook and Damien Hirst's I Want to Spend the Rest of My Life Everywhere, With Everyone, One to One, Forever, Now. From 1986 to '95 he was publishing director at Anthony d'Offay Gallery. In 1997, he began publishing under his own imprint, Violette Editions, which has produced books on Louise Bourgeois, Gilbert & George and Sophie Calle. The imprint will continue to operate.
