Tips to Be a Better Manager - Brief Article

Camping Magazine, Jan, 2000

Successful managers lead by example and readily share information with staff, say management experts. By doing so, they help to empower staff to do their best work. To put this type of leadership in place at your organization or camp:

* Be visible. Walk around camp and see what is going on. Ask questions.

* Ask for input from staff and implement staff suggestions. Thank staff for their suggestions.

* Admit errors if you fail. Employees should know that you are human, too.

* Don't ask staff members to do anything you wouldn't do. Take a turn doing one of the jobs that employees dread.

* Expect the best from staff.
