Camping Magazine, Jan-Feb, 2003
Luther H. Gulick and Charlotte Vetter Gulick, founders of Camp Fire USA, will be honored for their inspired leadership of the millions of youth, past and present, who have participated in Camp Fire USA. The founders will be awarded a bronze medallion, hand-sculpted with their image and imprinted with a description of their achievement. The medallion will be placed within the Extra Mile -- Points of Light Volunteer Pathway in Washington. D.C.
The Gulicks, who set their self-interests aside to volunteer and contribute to society at large, will be aptly recognized for their outstanding commitment to shape the youth of today. seventy-foot granite markers inlaid with the bronze medallions will form the Extra Mile pathway adjacent to the White House. The one-mile pathway will be dedicated in April 2003 during a distinguished ceremony, which will be attended by President Bush as an invited guest, dignitaries, the national press, and members of the first twenty organizations being honored.
Other award winners who will share this notable honor with the Gulicks include William D. Boyce, founder, Boy Scouts of America; Juliette Gordon Low, founder, Girl Scouts; and Martin Luther King, Jr., Civil Rights Leader.
