Time to Prepare for 2000 Standards Visits - camps readied under revised camp standards - Brief Article

Camping Magazine, March, 2000

Camps due visits in 2000 should be gearing up for their visit under the revised camp standards: Accreditation Standards for Camp Programs and Services (1998 edition ). Camp directors being visited must attend a standards training session on the new standards, if they didn't attend one of the sessions last year. Standards courses are offered locally and at many of the regional conferences. Contact your section office or standards chair for any sessions still scheduled for this spring. Camps new to accreditation must have applied and paid fees by March 1 to ensure a visit this summer.

Although the new standards evaluate the entire camp operation, visits are to be conducted when the most standards can be observed and verified. Because the standards include more requirements for day and resident camp programs than for the other modes of operation, the visit will still be during the summer for most camps. Directors and visitors should be hearing soon from their local sections about scheduling and assignments for upcoming summer visits.
