Hartwig -- Leader in organized camping.

Marie Dorothy (Pete) Hartwig passed away peacefully at age 95 on December 23, 2001. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Michigan, and spent her career there, retiring as professor of physical education and associate director of athletics for women in 1976. She was also director of counselor education at the National Music Camp at Interlochen from 1944 until 1982.

Horowitz -- Camp Founder and Director

Lee Horowitz, founder and director of Skylemar in Naples, Maine, passed away recently at age 84. He devoted a lifetime to guiding and inspiring youth from across the U.S. and abroad. In addition to directing Skylemar for fifty-three years, he was a coach, principal, Director of Interscholastic Athletics for the Baltimore City School system, and Sports Information Director at Johns Hopkins University.

Chernov -- Dedicated Camp Director

Camp co-director and owner of Camp Birch Trail in Minong, Wisconsin, passed away December 16, 2001. A successful practicing attorney prior to becoming a camp director, Richard Chernov had been a camper and staff member at North Star Camp for Boys in his youth. He gave up his law practice to co-direct Camp Birch Trail for Girls in the late 1980s with his wife, Barbara. Chernov also served as an American Camping Association Section board member and was active in Association of Independent Camps (AIC) affairs.

Cosby -- Camp Founder and Community Activist

Founder of Camp Kum-Ba-Yah in Lynchburg, Virginia, Bev Cosby, died in January. He founded Kum-Ba-Yah in 1950, sponsored by the Lynchburg Covenant Fellowship. The camp made history in 1961 when the camp's pool was integrated. He hosted Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., at his camp in 1962. Cosby was known as a quiet community activist and was instrumental in founding a long list of social ministries in Lynchburg.

Kriebel -- Respected Camp Leader

Millie Kriebel, a member of the American Camping Association (ACA) Acorn Society, recently passed away. She was active in the ACA Eastern Pennsylvania Section, which is now known as the Keystone Section.

Ezersky -- A Pioneer

Gene Ezersky, a member of the American Camping Association's Pioneers of Camping Club, passed away recently. He was the former owner of Indian Head Camp.

Marmor -- Camp Owner

Long-time owner of Camp Diana-Dalmaqua, Jeanette Marmor, recently passed away. She was a member of the American Camping Association New York Section.

Wikander -- Devoted Instructor

Pete Wikander, a member of the American Camping Association New Jersey Section for the past eighteen years, recently passed away. Wikander committed many hours as a standards visitor and archery instructor, as well as a devoted camp leader.

Willard -- Retired Camp Director and Section Leader

Leroy Willard passed away recently. He served as the American Camping Association Rocky Mountain Section president as well as section standards chair.
