Camp Directors Take Part in Professional Development Courses - Brief Article

Camping Magazine, May, 2000

Both the Camp Director Institute (CDI) and Basic Camp Directors Course (BCDC) were held at Ghost Ranch Conference Center in Abiquiu, New Mexico, prior to the ACA National Conference in Albuquerque. In all, seventy-seven camp directors took part in the training.

The 2000 CDI gave experienced camp directors the opportunity to examine, redefine, and demonstrate consistency between their camp's philosophy and operational components. Trainers for this six-day course were Peter Surgenor, Tony Vine, and Gordie Kaplan.

The sixty-three BCDC participants learned more about thirteen core areas of the professional development plan, including topics such as participant development and behavior, site and facilities management, program design, risk management, and mission/purpose. Tom Horner, Brian Crater, and Maggie Braun served as trainers.
