Bedding Code Clarification - Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines - Brief Article

Camping Magazine, May, 2001

During the session "A Review of the New Bedding Laws" at the ACA National Conference in Orlando, a question was asked if a "snap" fastening device would meet the new Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) guidelines for manufacturers of bunk beds. The answer given at the session was that it would not meet the code.

The CPSC code states: "Guardrails shall be attached so that they cannot be removed without either intentionally releasing a fastening device or applying forces sequentially in different directions."

The determination of compliance with the CPSC regulations rest with the CPSC, but ACA has been given information that indicates that a snap fastening device does meet the CPSC code.
