Nearly 900 Camps Visited - Brief Article

Camping Magazine, Sept, 1999

After undergoing an extensive three-year revision process, the new ACA camp standards were used in nearly 900 camp accreditation visits this summer. What's involved in 900 visits on new standards?

* More than 1,000 hours of national training for 145 standards instructors across the country.

* More than 6,000 hours of section training for camp directors.

* More than 7,000 hours of section training for new and updating standards visitors.

* 1,120 standards visitors trained by sections - 21 percent of the total ACA membership.

* Countless hours by section standards chairs, committees, and staff spent organizing, scheduling (and rescheduling) visits, fielding questions, and submitting reports.

* Thousands of new score forms, profiles, return envelopes, etc., sent to sections and individuals across the country.

* Approximately 18,000 hours spent by visitors and directors actually participating in accreditation visits during the summer (900 visits x 3 people x 7 hours).

Many thanks to all those involved for their commitment and dedication to helping ensure that the lives of campers and staff are enriched with quality camp experiences!
