Jameson Camp Helps During Crisis - Camp News - offers travelers shelter during September 11 terrorist attacks - Brief Article

Jameson Camp in Indianapolis opened its doors as a shelter to 145 passengers stranded at the Indianapolis International Airport in light of the tragedy on September 11. The passengers were en route to Mexico City from Montreal, Canada, when their plane was diverted to Indianapolis.

Working closely with the American Red Cross, Julie Marsh, executive director of Jameson Camp, along with staff, board members, and volunteers organized the logistics of housing the travelers. Many in the surrounding community pitched in to help. Area restaurants supplied meals and French and Spanish teachers from local schools came to assist the camp with communication needs. Generous donations multiplied throughout the week, causing an overflow of canned goods, bedding, clothing, etc. ACA national staff assisted the camp in redonating the items to local charitable organizations after the passengers left for their final destinations on Friday, September 14.
