Conspiracy theory

I am sure the Vatican and the pope have anticipated the following scenario: the pope has a massive stroke and is left in a persistent vegetative state. He has a feeding tube and hydration tube--and continues to exist for five or ten years. I must have missed something. Is there a vice pope? Is there a plan of succession? Who will speak for the pope? I can't wait for the conspiracy novel based on this plot.
