Home theater
Commonweal, June 3, 2005 by Robert E. Lauder
I hope that the excellent essay by Richard Alleva on the films of Carl Dreyer ("Corruption and Transcendence," March 25) is a sign of things to come. For the first time in history, film education can take place in the living room. Almost all the film classics are now available in video stores or through online rental services. Commonweal would do a great service by encouraging Alleva to do essays on other great directors, such as Hitchcock, Capra, Welles, and Ford, as well as foreign directors like Bergman, Fellini, Kieslowski, and Antonioni.
