Cosmetic Surgery Soars As Baby Boomers Age - Brief Article

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Nov, 1999

Since baby boomers crossed the half-century mark, cosmetic surgery for 51-64-year-olds has risen 47%, according to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Boomers are not alone. More seniors age 65 and over are choosing cosmetic surgery, a 113% increase since 1996. The most popular procedures for both age groups are eyelid surgery, facelifts, liposuction, and laser skin resurfacing.

"Due to healthier lifestyles, men and women age 50 and older are feeling good about themselves and want to maintain a youthful appearance," notes Paul Schnur, ASPRS president. "As this large segment of the U.S. population ages, we anticipate the increase in cosmetic surgery to continue."
