More Americans Trying Nude Recreation - survey, American Association for Nude Recreation - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), July, 2001

According to an American Association for Nude Recreation national survey, people are becoming more comfortable with their bodies and nude recreation. It found that 19% of Americans have skinny-dipped in mixed company, and 18% would consider visiting a clothing-optional resort or nude beach.

Pop culture may have contributed to the wider acceptance of nude recreation, with 47% having noticed increased references to skinny-dipping and social nudity in mainstream media such as magazines, television programs, movies, and advertisements. The 18-34 age group is more willing (34%) to bare it all and visit a clothing-optional resort or nude beach than their baby boomer counterparts age 45-54 (11%).

A higher household income and college or graduate degree make people more likely to participate in nude recreation than any other demographic. For example, 27% of those with a household income of over $40,000 have tried skinny-dipping, more than any other segment of respondents. Moreover, those polled with post-graduate degrees (27%) are more willing to try skinny-dipping than respondents with only some college (22%).
