It looks like the micro radio-controlled craze that has infested Asia for years may be on its way to the U.S., as the Radio Shack chain has imported ultra-speedy, fully customizable pocket-size RC cars. The ZipZaps Starter Kit ($19.99) includes an owner's manual, trading card, six-way controller/charger with removable strap, speed motor (16,000 rpm), body shell, stock chassis, factory wheel tires, and custom rims. The Ford SVT Mustang Cobra, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and Porsche 911 Turbo--we chose the latter--are the most-popular models.
The main entry in the RC field from Mattell, Mt. Laurel, N.J., is much larger. The Tyco Air Rebound ($49.99) may be the ultimate radio-controlled stunt vehicle thanks to its oversized air-filled front tire that allows it to be driven over obstacles, or above them, via double- and triple-jump capability.
