I Am Curious (The Criterion Collection, 228 minutes, $39.95). During the late 1960s, censorship began to crumble in the motion picture industry. A large impetus was the influx of foreign films that kept pushing the sexuality envelope. Foremost among these were a pair of Swedish movies--"I Am Curious (Yellow)" and "I Am Curious (Blue)," which came out in 1967 and 1968, respectively. Showing full frontal nudity for perhaps the first time in a mainstream picture, "Yellow" was banned in many states and dragged through the legal system, finally winning the right to be shown in the U.S. after the case reached the Supreme Court. Controversial 35 years ago, these pictures could be considered relatively tame today, considering what some American films are depicting and what a new wave of French releases such as "Baise Moi" and "Irreversible" are showing on screen. Reviving these movies now is more of sociological interest than about titillation, emphasized strongly by the plethora of special features, many of which dwell extensively on the trials and legal issues the controversy triggered.
