Ten to 20% of Americans - Health Beat - kidney stones - Brief Article

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), Feb, 2004

Ten to 20% of Americans will suffer a kidney stone varying in size from a grain of sand to a golf ball. Drinking up to 12 glasses of water a day and avoiding excessive protein intake reduce the risk, indicates Orson Moe, associate professor of internal medicine, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Symptoms include fever and chills, blood-stained urine, vomiting, sharp pain in back or side, and burning sensation when urinating.
