During dental or surgical procedures, bacteria that reside in the mouth or upper respiratory tract can travel to an in-office computer keyboard and survive as long as 24 hours. Viruses can live on them for one hour or more, depending on moisture level and air temperature, cautions Daniel Le Pera, a private dental practitioner in Hackensack, N.J.
