Give Fisher-Price, Inc., East Aurora, N.Y., and ESPN, Bristol, Conn., their due. Last holiday season, their collaborative efforts produced ESPN GameStation, the all-inclusive sports center that allows players to enjoy six of today's most popular sports--football, baseball, soccer, basketball, golf, and hockey. It was--and still is--a hot gift item. And why not? No one knows kids like Fisher-Price and no one knows sports like ESPN. This year, though, it is hoops that is front and center with the release of ESPN Shot Block Basketball, the only cagers arcade with an automatic built-in defense, thus presenting players with the ultimate challenge.

Attaching to any door, kids simply choose either the Beginner or Pro mode and the shot blocking rims (they really can!) do the rest, as eight separate electronic games keep the fun going. The advanced electronics include scoring, lights, sounds, and the colorful play-by-play commentary of ESPN announcer Dick Vitale: like "Swish-a-Roo baby!"

Shot Block ($69.99) has a ball return for arcade-style game play, or the chute can be folded against the door when one-on-one or a practice round is the game of choice. It requires four C alkaline batteries, and comes with two foam basketballs, ball return chute, side containment nets, and an electronic scoreboard. When the fun is over (now, how is that possible?), the unit folds away behind the door for easy storage.
