A lamp with a bright idea

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), May, 2008

A lamp that allows you to see well--and sounds great. Huh? Soundolier Integrated Wireless Technologies, a new division of Mitek Corporation, Phoenix, Ariz., has developed a state-of-the-art omnidirectional wireless speaker hidden within a stylish torchier floor lamp, ready for duty as a single full-range output device, in pairs as home theater surround speakers, or in as many quantities as desired as a distributed music system for homes, restaurants, and businesses. The Soundolier duo Wireless Speaker Lamp solves the two most common speaker installation challenges:

* Wiring--most homes and commercial buildings are not wired for audio and, even if they are, the permanent wires dictate where, and how many, speakers can be employed in a single room or throughout the floor plan.

* Aesthetics---conventional speakers can be unsightly, competing with decorations and add clutter to any space. Cabinets and speaker stands rarely can be placed accurately and are knocked over easily.

Moreover, the Speaker Lamp showcases a timeless contemporary design that complements most decorating styles and, in addition to a sleek dimmer-controlled lighting fixture, this versatile product houses a 5 1/4" full-range speaker. Using a pole pierced mounted dispersion design, the Soundolier duo evenly disperses sound in a 360 [degrees] arc, virtually eliminating localization and making it ideal for realistic musical performances and enveloping sound. Because no two audio systems are exactly alike, the Soundolier duo is engineered to accommodate a wide variety of system needs. A mix setting supports full-channel stereo sound in rooms where a single lamp is desired, while left- and right-channel choices support systems or home theater rear surround-sound speakers where two lamps are preferred.

There also is an input jack at the base of the lamp for additional flexibility, making hooking up with an MP3 or gaming system easy. There's a stereo output jack supporting the addition of a subwoofer or other extension speaker to expand your wireless system; a repeater can be attached to extend the system's signal range to other Soundolier devices and lamps. What's more, signal communication can be switched among four different channels to avoid interference with WiFi computer networks, cordless phones, or wireless appliances.

Each lamp retails for $299.95, and is available as a complete wireless system with one lamp and one transmitter for $379.95. For more information, visit www.soundolier.com or call 800-837-7879.
