Baseball's back - but who cares?

USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education), July, 1995 by Wayne M. Barrett

* It's bad enough that an extra round of playoffs have been added and that post-season games are played at night, but what's with all the frigid evening contests in April and May? It used to be that teams would wait for late spring and early summer before the cascade of night baseball began in earnest.

This season, for instance. because of TV contract obligations, the Mets and Expos had all 8:05 p.m. start on Mother's Day. When it comes to money, baseball doesn't even hesitate to put a price on American motherhood.
