Michael Antonovich, conservative Republican member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, has issued yet another of his analyses of the county's Department of Public Social Services figures
National Review, June 2, 2008
Michael Antonovich, conservative Republican member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, has issued yet another of his analyses of the county's Department of Public Social Services figures. He concludes that nearly 25 percent of the county's welfare and food-stamp benefits go to the children of illegal aliens, at an annual cost of over $400 million.
Says Antonovich: "The total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year, not including the millions of dollars for education." Long a thorn in the side of bureaucrats and liberals (he tried to organize a welcome-home-from-prison party for one of the LAPD officers convicted in the Rodney King case), Antonovich is one of those gadflies that every political system needs. The welfare numbers he quotes look sound, and have not been refuted. That such sums of public money should be spent on people who have no business being in our country speaks to an appalling dereliction of duty on the part of our government. That most citizens accept that dereliction so passively speaks to how little concern we have for our own citizenship laws, and how cowed we have been by the "diversity" lobbies and race hustlers.
