Dr. George Tiller, a Wichita abortionist, was shot and killed at his church on a Sunday, in the presence of his wife
National Review, June 22, 2009
Dr. George Tiller, a Wichita abortionist, was shot and killed at his church on a Sunday, in the presence of his wife. The prolife movement almost unanimously condemned the deed. The abatement of anti-abortion lawlessness--murders, bombings, mob scenes at abortion mills--has contributed to the measurable public turn against abortion since the early Nineties, for without distraction, the evil of abortion is plainer.
A few prolife zealots weaseled. "There is a Christian scripture that would support this," said one Dave Leach of Des Moines. There is a Christian scripture that would support anything, if misread by wicked idiots. No Christian can condone murder, as a tool of political action, in a nation of laws. Abraham Lincoln spoke about another holy murderer, John Brown, 150 years ago. "An enthusiast broods over the oppression of a people till he fancies himself commissioned by Heaven to liberate them. He ventures the attempt, which ends in little else than his own execution." The pro-life movement cannot have a pro-death wing. Tiller's profession will be put out of business by hard work, votes, and peaceful witness.
