The Wall Street Journal is keeping an eye on the U.N
National Review, June 30, 2008
The Wall Street Journal is keeping an eye on the U.N. The General Assembly elected Miguel d'Escoto its president. And it made the government of Burma one of its vice presidents. Remember d'Escoto? Think back to Sandinista days: He was their foreign minister. In 1985, he won the Lenin Prize, and it was richly deserved.
As for the Burmese government, it has been busy denying its stricken citizens humanitarian aid--because the aid comes from foreigners, such as Americans. It may be that the U.S. could not have blocked these actions. Still, we wonder: Is the U.S. being as vigilant as it was when John Bolton was our U.N. ambassador?
