National Review,  July 30, 2007  by H. Norman Whitely

David Pryce-Jones quite rightly describes Kurt Waldheim as one of the most despicable and despised figures in the West since 1945 ("A 20th-Century Career," July 9). But, in the end, Waldheim may have the last laugh on all of us.

Even as I write, Waldheim's words are headed for the stars on the most distant man-made object in space. How did this absurdity come about? When Waldheim was still secretary-general of the U.N., his words were printed on the "Golden Records" placed aboard the two Voyager crafts, launched in 1977.

How terrible that Waldheim "speaks for humanity" to whatever intelligent life should come across those records and decipher their messages.
