Citizens of Washington State are petitioning for a vote on an initiative to copy Oregon's assisted-suicide law

National Review,  July 14, 2008

Citizens of Washington State are petitioning for a vote on an initiative to copy Oregon's assisted-suicide law. Only people with terminal illnesses would have this grisly "right," at least at first--supporters of the initiative are already saying they want to liberalize the law if it passes.

The proposed law is too expansive as it is. As in Oregon, nobody would even have to have any symptoms, let alone unbearable pain, to be assisted in suicide. Some cancer patients in Oregon have found that the state will cover the cost of their suicide but not that of their chemotherapy. Washington should not follow its neighbor's example.
