The Misanthrope's Corner - distasteful advertising - Brief Article - Column

National Review, August 12, 2002 by Florence King

As for nudity, it's okay if it's female, but one skin shot I would censor purely for aesthetic reasons is the rear view of the male. Is there anything more depressing than a man's behind? Narrow and shrunken, a stunted little thing, a nether afterthought, the behind that Nature forgot. I've often wondered how men can sit comfortably; it's a wonder the bones don't break through.

Why do moviemakers think we want to look at such a study in pathos? Visual pleasure demands an hourglass; a tiny waist that suddenly blossoms into undulating curves to form the most comfortable seat a backyard swing set ever had -- now that's a behind.
