The Misanthrope's Corner

National Review, Dec 31, 1998 by Florence King

I'd rather tilt at language abusers. If it's "just sex," is it also Just Psychopathia Sexualis by Richard von Krafft-Ebing? If there are no absolutes, why does everybody keep saying "Absolutely!" instead of yes? Now that "seeking closure" is the latest thing, why hasn't it occurred to anyone to look in the thesaurus for "write finis to"? And if Clinton would not let Monica soldier on to "completion," does that mean he's in control, out of control, a control freak, or just a freak?

Now for my New Year's Resolution. I will not try any more obscure POTUS jokes. From now on I'll confine myself to the one about the traveling salesman and the farmer's daughter.
