"Suggest that immigration, legal or otherwise, not only is in the American tradition but a net benefit to our economy besides, and watch the editors at National Review and the pseudo-populists at Fox News come unhinged"

National Review, April 5, 2004

* "Suggest that immigration, legal or otherwise, not only is in the American tradition but a net benefit to our economy besides, and watch the editors at National Review and the pseudo-populists at Fox News come unhinged." These words by Jason Riley graced the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal.

Riley goes on to describe proponents of tighter border control and all their works as "loathsome," "repugnant," and "dumb." The moral of the story: Suggest that immigration, "legal or otherwise," would work better for America at lower levels, and what you will get from the Wall Street Journal is not a replay of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
