Credo

National Review, August 11, 1997 by Ralph De Toledano

The Romeros -- Celedonio, Celin, Pepe, and Angel -- are billed as the Royal Family of the Spanish Guitar, and their latest album, The Romeros (Philips/Mercury 434 385-2), sustains that claim. They run the gamut from the fifteenth- and sixteenth-century composers such as Luis Milan, to Bach, to the flamenco, and to later Spanish composers such as Granados and Torroba.

The classical guitar, an instrument of far greater eloquence than its jazz and amplified cousins, succeeded the medieval lute and was an important element in Spain's musical voice.
