Sidney Becher. - sound recording reviews
National Review, Oct 28, 1988 by Ralph de Toledano
Sidney Bechet (RCA-Bluebird): Like Louis Armstrong, Bechet was not only a superlative instrumentalist-he played soprano sax and clarinet-but a pioneer in jazz. His beautiful tone, affecting vibrato, and improvisations on the melody rather than the chord gave everything he played a patina of grace.
Twenty-two cuts from the voluminous Bechet catalogue are included here, and ever one is a gem.
