Shame on you
National Review, April 21, 1997 by Peter T. King
I am writing to protest the vicious and ethnically insensitive caricature of Kate O'Beirne [April 7]. For shame! As an American of Irish descent I am deeply offended by this rendering of Mrs. O'Beirne. Seating Kate on a bottle of Irish whiskey deliberately calls to mind the most hateful of all negative Irish stereotypes. I condemn this gross display of latter-day Know-Nothingism!
On the other hand, the depiction of John O'Sullivan as a slightly gone-to-seed John Bull was in good taste and quite amusing.
