Interview, Oct, 1999
Tom Cruise first came to national attention along with best friends Tim Hutton and Sean Penn in "Taps," as the deranged psycho-killer cadet. The self-trained actor may well be following in their footsteps to major stardom as Stef Djordjevic, a high school football star driven to athletic excellence in order to escape a Pennsylvania steel town in 20th Century Fox's ALL THE RIGHT MOVES, to be premiered in this month.
Warner Brother's late summer release, RISKY BUSINESS opens with Tom as the unfortunate adolescent whose parents go away for the weekend and leave him with the house and a gang of party-hungry friends. Tom will tackle his next project with Emilio Estevez in S.E. Hinton's THAT WAS THEN, THIS IS NOW. No newcomer to Hinton's work. Tom played Rob (Pony Boy) Lowe's gas station sidekick in "The Outsiders."
