Must 'Ave A Mustache - the mustache's popularity is soaring

Interview, Nov, 1999 by Karl Plewka

Diana Vreeland, the late grande dame of fashion, once said that to consistently stand out as a stylish and distinguished figure, one must find a look and stick with it. This advice considered, one can see how the mustache has helped figures both real and fictional to etch themselves indelibly on the consciousness of generations.

Think Hercule Poirot and Salvador Dali. Here, Eugene Hutz (top), a model and singer, and designer John Bartlett (bottom) are proof that mustaches are making as big a follicle frisson today as designer stubble did back in the '80s. And for those who still get itchy at the though of a mustache, keep this in mind: It'll grow on you. KARL PLEWKA
