NIGO. - Review - sound recording review

Interview, Nov, 2000 by Julia Chaplin

Ape Sounds (MoWax)

If you like G.I. Joe dolls, Planet of the Apes, and retro bowl haircuts, then you'll, love this debut from Japanese hipster emissary Nigo. The man behind the street wear label A Bathing Ape, Nigo has spliced together a lyrical show-and-tell of cool cameos and clever melodies, with some traditional Japanese instrumentation thrown into the mix. Tracks like "Kung Fu Fightin'" and "March of the General" may seem pop cultish to some, but they'll make rerun fanatics go Ape.
