Michael Jordan's return to the NBA might have something to do with it. But we've noticed basketball jerseys jumping from center court to the fashion runways this season. Some experts see a mix of reasons for the appeal of the uniforms. It may have something to do with basketball's relevance to the times we're living in.
After all, it's a game in which assists are important, and so is rebounding--the ethical and psychological implications of which are obvious. It's a game in which you score points not for having ursine brutish power, but for gazelle-like grace, speed and skill. And for those with an injured inner child, here's a sport where you're not only allowed to dribble, it's actually required. Best of all, b-ball is a game whose very name reminds us of life's most important lessons: Be. And have a ball.
