This acclaimed Argentine director gives the dreaded "coming-of-age drama" genre a go as the film's 8-year-old title character (Rodrigo Noya) makes sense of the world and--sigh--las chicas in 1969 Buenos Aires. Forgoing bathetic nostalgia in favor of wit and emotional honesty, Agresti scores big with the help of his brilliant, bespectacled young star.
