Daryl Hannah - Interview

Interview, May, 2000 by Eric Idle

A SCREEN SIREN WHO ALWAYS KNOWS HOW TO MAKE A SPLASH

ERIC IDLE: How many animals do you have?

DARYL HANNAH: I have four dogs, four horses, a cat, and a bunch of wild frogs.

EI: Are these animals surrogates for other things in your life?

DH: No, they're all just strays.

EI: How do you have stray horses? Do they wander in down the freeway?

DH: There are horses people use for competition, and if they don't perform well or go lame, then people ask the vet to put them down to get the insurance money. And my vet knows I love horses, so he gives them to me.

EI: You are the Florence Nightingale of strays, aren't you? Why do you think you do this?

DH: It's not really something I choose. I suppose I could choose to walk over the dog that's crawling in front of me, broken and battered and terrified [ldots]

EI: Well, many people would. I think it's rather lovely that you don't. I'm going on tour this spring singing Monty Python songs. What are you doing these days?

DH: I just finished a film with Michael Radford called Dancing at the Blue Iguana.

EI: This is the film for which you were allegedly taking your clothes off in public. How much research can a girl do?

DH: I was appearing in a bikini bar, but it was undercover. I wore disguises.

EI: [laughs] That girl looks remarkably like Daryl Hannah with her clothes off.

DH: People actually said that.
