Toni Braxton. - Review - sound recording review

Interview, May, 2000 by Dimitri Ehrlich

The Heat (LaFace/Arista)

If you like your romantic ballads homey, tender, and vulnerable, stay back! This state-of-the-art album of lite soul sounds like it cost more to make than a nuclear submarine. With its ubiquitous Spanish guitar flourishes, the long-awaited recording may still be in time to catch the wave of Latin pop. Braxton can sing with the best of them--technically, there isn't a single flaw here. That inhuman perfection may be its greatest weakness.
