Basement Jaxx - new album, Rooty - Brief Article

Interview, June, 2001 by Evelyn McDonnell

Rooty (Astralwerks)

Forget Daft Punk's cheesy vocoder throwaways: Basement Jaxx are poised to launch the true electronica crossover smash of 2001. The British duo recorded this album in their local dive, and it has the unpretentious feel of pub music--only with synths, not guitars. With tracks ranging from '80s Hi NRG to punk thrash to the lovely, Orbesque "Broken Dreams," Rooty sounds more like a jukebox jam than a trance marathon--thank goodness.
