Interview, July, 2003 by Michaelangelo Matos
Ego War (Astralwerks)
Infusing brash dance beats with snarling attitude, the West London duo of Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale had barely eked out their debut when they founded their own genre. Already dubbed "hooligan house," the album moves seamlessly from the wobbly breaks of "Snake" to the woozy, cascading horn line of "The Snow," tied together by Franks' laconic speak-sing. Funny and surreal, it's one of the most engaging dance records of the year.
