Sonic Youth. - Review - sound recording review

Interview, July, 2000 by Nicholas Messing

NYC Ghosts & Flowers (Geffen)

This iconoclastic foursome continue to dip ever further out of the mainstream. NYC Ghosts & Flowers testifies to their underground aesthetic with Beat-style confessions and bursts of punk rock framed by atmospheric feedback-fests. Sonic Youth stay true to their guitars more than their indie rock imitators do, with just a sliver of electronic edge by Jim O'Rourke. Their tribute to grunge on "Nevermind (What Was It Anyway)," is a high point on this record of half-baked elegies to urban discontent.
