LAIKA. - Review - sound recording review

Interview, August, 2000 by Ken Micallef

Good Looking Blues (Too Pure/Beggars Banquet)

London duo Laika make electronica that is cerebral, soothing, and slightly ominous, a dense urban cocoon of cozy samples and friction-heavy beats. Though singer/composer Margaret Fiedler's girlish vocals and throwaway lyrics can grow annoying, when you're surrounded by streaming layers of lush electric piano, spidery melodies, and gritty tribal-jazz production, you forget her wordy poetry and instead get lost in Laika's woolly rainforest of sounds.
