Shutterbug - photographer Christopher Beirne - Illustration

Interview, Feb, 1994 by Steven Garbarino

Christopher Beirne has an artist's eye for capturing the beauty of realism and a journalist's ear for gripping subject matter. The photographer's recent subjects have included pit bulls and their owners, and children who are blind. "The children liked being photographed," he says, "because they could feel the warmth of the flash." We love Beirne because his black-and-white images don't flinch from the true grit of life.

"Photography is a great excuse for seeing things you ordinarily wouldn't," he says. Beirn will be peeking into the operating room on his next assignment.
