Progressive, The, Dec, 1999

Leaving Washington, D.C., on October I and arriving in New York City on November I, the March of the Americas highlighted the economic problems U.S. policies cause throughout the hemisphere. The photo was taken on October 7 in Baltimore. At left is Leonilda Zurita Vargas from Bolivia; at right, Cheri Honkala, director of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union, one of forty groups in the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, which sponsored the march.
