People protested on November 17, the one-year anniversary of the special registration program for men from mostly Arab and Muslim countries. The post-9/11 program registered more than 83,000 immigrants. According to the Chicago Tribune, the government ordered deportation proceedings for 13,740 and publicly charged no one with terrorism. The government ended the program in early December.
