Protesting budget cuts - On the Line - American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today protest at Texas governor's office - Brief Article

Disability activists refused to leave Texas Governor Rick Perry's office on April 10 as they protested proposed budget cuts to the state's social programs. Since January, members of American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today (ADAPT), a disability rights group, have been lobbying lawmakers to protect funding for programs that enable people to live in their own homes and communities instead of nursing homes. "We're going to keep the pressure on because the cuts are immoral," Bob Kafka, ADAPT spokesman and protester, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "They can't keep kidding the general public that the cuts won't hurt."
