As I sit here preparing my first article for the Journal, I realize how dependent we are on electricity. Today, along with many Eastern cities, the Detroit area was affected by the eastern power failure. Fortunately, I have a laptop PC that runs on rechargeable batteries, but they have their limitations too. No power, no recharge.

Virtually everything in our life is dependent on electricity. We can't pump gas, operate a computer or cash register, or go the ATM machine without electricity. So, I sit here by candlelight preparing this article the old-fashioned way...longhand.
