Bulletin Editors

The Bulletin Advisory Service (Chapter, Club, Council) listed under "Services & Activities" in the PSA Journal was established to help club editors produce attractive, readable, informative newsletters. If a club lacks a bulletin and wants one, if an inexperienced editor needs "how-to" information, if a current editor wishes to revamp a publication, help is available. The BAS answers specific questions from the editor. It can supply an in-depth evaluation of a current bulletin; it can suggest changes to improve format, content or readability.

For an evaluation, send three copies of a recent issue and postage for two ounces of first class mail to the Bulletin Advisor. One bulletin marked with suggestions, a letter discussing the suggestions, some printed material about bulletin preparation, an index of BAS "how-to" articles published in the PSA Journal, clippings from other bulletins to illustrate suggested changes, and frequently, samples of well-done bulletins for comparative purposes are returned to the editor. After changes, an editor can request another evaluation. Many, after disappointing results in PSA's annual Bulletin Contest, have contacted the BAS, implemented some of the suggestions offered, entered their publication in the next contest and raised their contest ranking (some have even made the Honors list). Equally important, the Bulletin Advisory Service is a valuable source of help and ideas for improving club bulletins to better serve the needs of their members.
